Easement Acquisition & Management
The Restoration Trust is a 501©(3) land trust, enabled to acquire and hold easements over land. We believe that easement acquisition and subsequent work with the landowner can be one of the most effective ways to preserve large areas of land, especially those primarily used in low-intensity farming activities such as grazing but that also have important natural resources and sensitive species habitats.
The Trust will typically work with the landowner first to evaluate the site and determine whether acquisition of an easement meets the Trust’s goals and objectives. We will also define long-term costs and stewardship requirements and identify a funding source for these. Once the easement has been acquired and recorded, Trust scientists evaluate that site frequently to ensure the resources are being protected and the easement fulfilled.
